A western Iowa teen died Sunday of injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle crash late last month in Shelby County. Authorities say 17-year-old Lauren Lueth, of Manilla, was making a U-turn on a county road near Manning on November 24th when her car was broadsided.

Lueth was flown to an Omaha hospital where she had been listed in critical condition. She was a senior at Irwin-Kirkman-Manilla High School, where superintendent Jeff Kruse says counselors are on hand today to help her classmates deal with the death.

Kruse says the family decided to take her off life support Sunday after her vital signs showed no signs of functioning. She died soon afterward. He says her organs were donated to others in need and the family wanted to thank the students and staff at IKM for their support.

Services for Lueth are pending. The driver of the other car, 18-year old Jared Schmidt of Manilla, was injured, as were four passengers in the two vehicles — all from Manilla. Schmidt has since been charged with OWI.
