More than a dozen college basketball teams will visit Dubuque this week for the Clarke College Holiday basketball tournament. Eight teams will take part in the men’s tournament and seven women’s teams will take part in the five-day event.

Clarke men’s coach Jon Davison says it’s a community project, as the very first time they ran it, they modeled it after the National Catholic tournament, but put their own touch on it. He says a committee works year-round to help accommodate all of the teams that visit the city.

Clarke says they try to provide each school with three free meals, and get the players in homes where volunteers feed them. All of the games will be played at the Kehl Center. The Clarke women open late Thursday afternoon against Blackburn of Illinois while the Crusader men play the final game of the evening against St. Francis of Illinois..
