Iowa State picked up a non-conference win as the Cyclones beat South Carolina Upstate 72-48 in Ames. ISU coach Greg McDermott was pleased with the effort on defense. He says they did a good job of holding South Carolina’s leading scorer to six shots, and executed the defensive plan pretty well.

McDermott says the Cyclones did a better job in the second half of taking care of the ball. McDermott says they took the value of the ball for granted in the first half, thinking they were going to outscore them. He says once they got refocused in the second half, they did a better job. Iowa States hosts North Dakota on Saturday.
