Iowa State forward Craig Brackins lived up to his billing in Iowa State’s Big-12 opener. Considered one of the top power forward recruits in the country last year, the 6-10 Brackins set an ISU freshman record by scoring 33 points in the Cyclones’ 74-67 loss at Baylor.

Brackins drained eight three pointers and is shooting 43 percent from behind the arc. Iowa State coach Greg McDermott says Brackins is talented and shot the three well in prep school and practice, but hadn’t done it yet this year in games. McDermott says it took Brackins a while to adjust to the college level.

He says young players always have a big period of adjustment and sometimes relaxing and making shots is the last part of the game that comes to them. The Cyclones are 10-6 overall and return to action on Wednesday night at home against Missouri.
