Gene Campbell A Waterloo man is charged with first degree murder in the death of another Waterloo man late last year.  Thirty-two year old Gene Campbell is accused of killing 60 year old Jim Hendrix, Junior, who’s body was found in his apartment at the Renaissance Park high-rise on December 3rd.

Police formally charged Campbell Tuesday after receiving a State Medical Examiner’s report that concluded Hendrix’ death was a homicide. Police say their investigation has determined that Hendrix and Campbell entered Hendrix’ apartment together just after 9:30 P.M. on November 30th and that Campbell left the apartment alone approximately 20 minutes later.

Police say that evening was the last time Hendrix was seen alive. Although Hendrix’ body wasn’t found until three days later, police say the medical examiner’s report concluded that November 30th was consistent with the time of his death. Campbell has been in the Black Hawk County jail since December 5th, when he was arrested on a parole violation charge.
