Upper Iowa women’s basketball player Christa Hammel reached a milestone on Saturday when she became the tenth player in school history to reach one thousand career points. Upper Iowa coach Ben Conrad says they had a great weekend with a couple of victories and it was neat for Hammel to reach that milestone. The six-foot one-inch Hammel is a native of Waukon, and Conrad says it’s even more amazing as she missed some time with an A-C-L tear and played her junior year with chronic arthritis in her knee.

Conrad says despite those injuries, she’s still having an outstanding career. He says Hammel is tough and not afraid of work and is a good leader on the floor. Hammel reached the milestone by scoring 20 points in a victory over Northern State of South Dakota. Conrad believes Hammel will have a strong finish to the season.

Conrad says they still have some basketball left and Hammel’s knees are feeling better. Upper Iowa is 2-9 in the Northern Sun Conference.
