Officials with Electrolux Home Products in Webster City announced Tuesday that 78 production workers will be laid off as of next week. Company spokesman Tony Evans said this is a normal seasonal adjustment done to balance production, inventory and sales demand at the washer and dryer manufacturer.
He went on to say that the layoffs are not permanent and are not related to the company’s move to Mexico. It was two years ago this month that Electrolux announced that it would lay off some 700 workers from the Webster City plant due to moving some of its work to a new plant in Juarez,Mexico. The layoffs were scheduled to start late last year but it is still not known when the reduction will take place.
Plans call for moving the production of front loading washers and dryers to the Juarez plant while the production of top loading washers, companion dryers and laundry centers would remain in Webster City. The Electrolux plant has a work force of 1900.
