A northwest Iowa man was killed in a weekend accident. A Rock Rapids man died after being thrown from his snowmobile Sunday afternoon northeast of Rock Valley. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, 46-year-old Jim Steenhoven struck an opening on the ice on the Rock River causing him to be thrown from the snowmobile.
Steenhoven was wearing a helmet and was alone on the snowmobile. He was snowmobiling with a group of people. The accident is still under investigation.
