Grief counselors are stationed at Hoover Elementary School in Council Bluffs this morning, helping students and staff cope with a student’s death. Eleven-year-old Haylee Beck was one of three people killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash near Council Bluffs. Principal Joy Steine says Haylee was a wonderful child.

Steine says "Haylee was a delightful young lady. She was caring, she was compassionate, always looking out for the welfare of others." Steine says Haylee had attended the school since she was five and she was active in school activities. She played the clarinet in the school band and was preparing for a concert in a few weeks. Steine says information was also sent home with students on how to assist in coping with her death.

"We’re keeping a very close eye on our kids, making ourselves available and pulling together all of our resources to support one another as we all go through this very difficult time," Steine says. Also killed in the accident were: 39-year-old Deidre Whitehill of rural Council Bluffs and her 14-year-old daughter, Kelsey Breemes of Lincoln, Nebraska. Investigators say icy road conditions likely contributed to the accident.
