Dubuque Wahlert’s size advantage was too much for Frest City to overcome. Six-foot eight-inch 300 pound center Drew Davis scored 21 points and added 16 rebounds in the Golden Eagle’s 67-60 win. Davis says it was one of their plans to use their size advantage. Davis says they worked the ball well and he was able to get open.

Harlan fell behind 12-2 at the outset but the Cyclones climbed back to beat Adel ADM 56-47. After losing a heartbreak in the semifinal round a year ago the Cyclones advance to play Wahlert for the 3A crown.

Harlan coach Mitch Osborn says it’sa great feeling to get to the title game again. Osborn says people may think they’re spoiled by their success, but he says they’re selfish and work hard.

The Class 2A semifinal round matchup between Western Christian and Pella Christian was as entertaining as expected. Defending champion Western Christian rallied from 12 points down in the third quarter to down the top ranked Eagles 67-61.

Jeremy Zeutenhorst who led Western with 20 points,including seven-of-1- shooting from the field. The Wolfpack shot 56 percent in the second half. He says they started slow and got back in, and then got behind in the third quarter, but weren’t going to quit. Pella Christian coach Larry Hessing says it’s hard to know what to say after a game like this. He says it was a great game and Western has a good team.

Fort Dodge St. Edmond’s junior John Engler picked the right day to have his career high. The junior forward poured in 34 points and added ten rebounds in the Gael’s 66-60 win over Solon. His career high had been 26, and he says it feels good to top that in the tournament. The Gaels outscored Solon 20-12 in the fourth quarter to earn a matchup with Western Christian for the 2A title.
