The Iowa Hawkeye baseball team hosts Western Illinois in it home opener this evening. The Hawks are 6-8 overall after winning three of five game during a trip to Florida. Iowa coach Jack Dahm, says despite the extended winter the field is ready to go.

Dahm says the field is still a little soft, but they are looking forward to finally getting to play at home after being one the road.

Iowa will host Northern Illinois in a doubleheader on Wednesday before opening the Big Ten race at Michigan this weekend. Dahm says they will throw a lot of pitchers, and some will get a couple innings of work today, as he says they try to get used to pitching in the colder weather.
