A ten-year-old Nebraska girl, whose dying wish was to see her imprisoned father, died early this morning of brain cancer. Jayci Yeager, of Lincoln, was able to spend less than an hour with her dad on Wednesday in a supervised visit from a South Dakota prison. Jason Yeager is serving time on a meth charge and is scheduled to be released to a half-way house in Council Bluffs in August.

Yeager’s family had fought for an early release so he could spend time with his daughter. Ed Yeager, Jayci’s uncle, tells C-B-S that Jayci seemed to be holding on until her father could visit. "I believe that’s what happened," he says. "She was hanging on for daddy and she got her daddy and then she let go." Yeager says he’s not happy with the prison officials’ decision that Jason couldn’t have a temporary furlough to be with his child during her final days.

"No, we are not satisfied with their actions. Jason should have been here with Jayci when she passed," Yeager says. He says Jason wasn’t asking for a permanent release from his four-year drug sentence. The prison said the circumstances were not extraordinary enough to grant the furlough.

"All he wanted was to just be here by her side," Yeager says. "He would have taken up the rest of his sentence afterwards. He just wanted to be with his daughter, that’s all." Jason Yeager is now seeking permission to be allowed to attend his daughter’s funeral.
