Spring football carries added meaning for the Drake Bulldogs who will play next season under their third coach in three years. Chris Creighton hopes to provide stability after Steve Loney directed the team for one season after former coach Rob Ash left for Montana State.

Creighton says it’s an opportunity for his staff to get to know the team and the team to know them and get that all out of the way as they head into the fall. While spring football is normally a time to work on areas that lost players from the previous season Creighton says this time it will be about a foundation for the program.

He says it’s about establishing the program and new schemes offensively and defensively and continuing momentum from the offseason conditioning and getting better. Creighton says they have been able to get familiar with the players during winter workouts. Half the staff has been around for awhile, so he says they’ve talked about the past and have watched the players lift and run. so they have some idea of what they are working with.

Creighton says the Bulldogs will close out spring practice with an intrasquad game on April 19th at 6 p.m.
