Property tax payments are due next Monday for Iowans who don’t have the payments made automatically by their mortgage companies. Cerro Gordo County Treasurer, Michael Grandon, says you can pay the taxes in person at the courthouse or you can mail them in. Grandon has this warning though.

Grandon says if you mail the payment, it has to be postmarked by midnight March 31st. "So if you mail ’em on the last day, you have to be very careful to get them mailed in a place where they will get a postmark, " Grandon says, "if you mail them in the wrong spot, even though you mail them on the 31st, if they do not get a postmark until the first of April, you will be subject to a penalty."

Grandon says all 99 counties have on-line payment available. Grandon says the more people that pay on-line or via the mail, make the lines shorter at the courthouse and make it easier on everyone. Grandon says if you don’t have your property tax information or if you want to pay your taxes on-line, you can go to the Iowa State County Treasurers Association website at www.iowatreasurers.org . Or you can access your property tax information by going to the website www.iowataxandtags.gov .
