The Iowa football team is inexperienced at running back as the Hawkeyes get set to close out spring drills. Albert Young and Damien Sims are gone from last year’s team and walk-on Paki O’Meara is currently the top tailback.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says O’Mera has done a nice job this spring and says if he ends up being the starter, they will have a lot of confidence in him. Junior College transfer Nate Guillory is on campus and taking part in spring practice.

Ferentz says spring ball is pretty condensed, so it’s on the field learning. He says they’ll see much more from Guillory in the fall after this spring acclimation period. The Hawks will get Shonn Greene back in the fall. He has spent the past year at a junior college.

Ferentz says it will take Green time to work back into the rotation, and says fall camp will be important for him to get in shape and stay with the plan. Iowa will hold a scrimmage that is open to the public on Saturday.
