Floyd County Sheriff Rick Lynch is warning people to make sure that donations that are intended to help the Marble Rock family that lost three children in a house fire Friday actually are going to that family.

Sheriff Lynch’s department was contacted by the family of Heather and Tim Legg about someone who has been dropping off donation cans or going up to people for donations in Floyd, Cerro Gordo and Butler Counties.

Lynch says businesses should decline the offer to host a donation spot, and either establish their own donation cans or refer people to First Security Bank and Trust locations in Marble Rock, Charles City, Aredale, Dumont, Ionia, and Rockford.

Funeral arrangements for six-year-old Abby Sutter, three-year-old Jacob Legg and 20- month-old Jesselyn Legg are still pending. Another child, 12-year-old Andrew Heideman, remains at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
