The first of five finalists for the job of athletic director at UNI completed her two-day on campus interview on Tuesday. Barbara Walker is senior associate athletic director at Wake Forest and says it was the commissioner of the Missouri Valley Conference who got her interested in the post.

Walker says he called and said it’s a job she should take a look at based on the programs and the commitment to athletics. Walker says she is impressed with what she saw. "It’s a winning program, it’s a program that runs with integrity," Walker says. She says it has a lot of support from the top down.

Walker says being one of the finalists is a tremendous opportunity, and one that she has gone into with no real expectations. Walker says she thought she bombed the phone interview. UNI is looking for a replacement for Rick Hartzell, who resigned in January.
