The Iowa Transportation Commission today gave approval for funding to help bring a new business to Newton. Stuart Anderson of the Iowa Department of Transportation says the city was awarded $630,000 to help build a roadway to the facility.

Anderson says the money will go toward the reconstruction and realignment of roadway to one of the former Maytag buildings for Trinity Structural Towers Incorporated. Anderson says the funding comes from what’s called the "RISE" or Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy fund.

Anderson says the Texas company produces towers for wind turbines and the facility is expected to create 140 new jobs within two years. The company is planning to invest just over 21-million dollars in the plant. Trinity is one of several wind turbine related companies that are locating in Newton as officials look to make up for the closing of the Maytag plant.
