Authorities in central Iowa were involved in a standoff overnight with a armed man. Story County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Drew Toresdahl says the incident started around 10:30 p.m. as a domestic dispute in Polk County. Deputies from Polk County arrived on the scene and followed 53-year-old William Eichinger to his home near Huxley in Story County.

"They learned that (Eichinger) had been armed with a firearm at the residence in Polk County and called for assistance from us and the Iowa State Patrol," Toresdahl said. The woman involved in the dispute told officers that Eichinger had several weapons inside his home.

Roadblocks were set up along Highways 210 and 69 as a precaution. The standoff finally ended around 2:30 this morning. "Negotiations broke off periodically throughout the three hour period and were reestablished several times. At approximately 2:30, he did come out of the house and was apprehended at that time," Toresdahl said.

Authorities arrested Eichinger as he attempted to go back inside his home. Eichinger is charged with domestic assault and assault going armed with intent.
