Tom Davis has announced he is retiring as a special assistant to Drake athletic director Sandy Hatfield-Clubb. Davis held that job for the past year after he retired as the Bulldog’s basketball coach and turned the program over to his son Keno.

Drake enjoyed its most successful season since 1971 and the Bulldogs won the Missouri Valley regular season and tournament titles. Hatfield-Club says she talked with Davis when Keno decided to take the job in Providence, and continued to talk about it. She says they visited again before he made his final decision.

Davis spent four seasons as the head coach at Drake and Hatfield-Clubb says he laid a solid foundation. "What he meant to Drake is just immeasurable, his investment of his time and energy in rejuvenating and revitalizing the men’s basketball is something that will last as a treasure at Drake University forever," Hatfield-Club says. In all, Davis spent 32 years as a head coach.
