New Drake basketball coach Mark Phelps has put together his coaching staff and it includes one holdover from the staff of previous coach Keno Davis. Justin Ohl has spent the past ten years at Drake as a player and a member of the coaching staff. Phelps says Ohl has been at Drake for 10 years and knows the program inside and out. He says Ohl is also an "extremely bright and very talented" person.

Phelps says Ohl offers a number of different strengths and will help in coaching and recruiting. Ohl is a native of Mason City and turned down a chance to join Keno Davis at Providence. Ohl says he’s not ready to walk away from Drake as he has enjoyed the people and university and says it’s special to him.

Ohl says he let Phelps know early on that he wanted to stay on if given the chance. He says he talked about that at their very first meeting and talked more and more as things went on. Also joining Phelps are former Evansville player Kareem Richardson who most recently was an assist at Missouri-Kansas City. Mike Gibson was an assistant with Phelps at Arizona State.
