The Iowa State Patrol has identified two people that were killed in a traffic crash in north-central Iowa. The crash happened Friday afternoon at an intersection just west of Geneva in Franklin County. Investigators says 71-year-old Norman VanDeest of Grundy Center was driving a semi and was pulling out from a stop sign when the rig was hit in the rear wheels by an oncoming car.

VanDeest was not hurt, but he driver of the car, a 1993 Corvette, and a passenger were both killed. They’re identified as 55-year-old Roy Robertson of Geneva and 62-year-old Ernest Linn of Tivoli, Texas.

The weather is partially to blame for another fatal crash in northern Iowa late Saturday night. The Iowa State Patrol says it happened when Justin Ysker of Belmond apparently lost control of his car on a rain-covered Interstate 35 in Hamilton County. A passenger, John Ysker, was killed when the vehicle collided with an SUV. Justin Ysker, and two residents of LaCrosse, Wisconsin – who were in the SUV – were all injured.
