An eastern Iowa school board is moving to fire its superintendent. Bettendorf superintendent Marty Lucas was arrested in February after a single vehicle accident and charged with drunken driving. Lucas told arresting officers that he had had only one beer with lunch.

The Chevy Blazer Lucas was driving and the U-Haul trailer behind it slid off an icy interstate and into a ditch. Tests revealed his blood alcohol level was significantly over the legal limit an hour after the wreck. Lucas is currently on paid administrative leave and he has the right to appeal the board’s decision to terminate his contract.

Lucas has pleaded not guilty to the drunken driving charge. A jury trial is scheduled for August.
