Officials at the Iowa Speedway say the crowd at this weekend’s Indy Car race could top last year’s. General manager Craig Armstrong says the Inaugural Iowa Corn Indy 250 drew about 36,000 fans. He says there are about 1,000 reserved seats remaining and an unlimited number of general admission tickets.

Armstrong says they do expect to have sold all the reserved seats by race day, but will still sell general admission seats and have set up extra bleachers to accommodate everyone. Armstrong says there’s not a bad seat in any part of the track.

Armstrong says the strength of ticket sales is proof that the fans support the Indy Car event. He says Iowans tend to be the most ardent fans in America as there are more active racetracks in Iowa than any other state. Armstrong says this is open-wheel country with the Knoxville Raceway and sprint cars only about 26 miles away.

Armstrong says they don’t want people to stay away as there will still be plenty of tickets available.
