Officials with the Cedar Rapids Kernels hope tonight’s game can provide a diversion from the clean-up efforts underway in that city. The Kernels open the second half of the Midwest League race against the Quad Cities Riverbandits, their first home game in nearly two weeks and their first since record flooding hit the city.

Kernels general manager Jack Roeder says they are asking fans to bring food and clothing items for victims of flooding and they will also raise some money as well. Roeder says some people are still cleaning up, but he’s heard from some who are going to use the game as a break from the flooding.

Roeder says they will be asking for money, clothing and food throughout the eight-game homestand.
