Mike Brown has been named the interim head coach of the Upper Iowa womens’ basketball program. Brown had served as an assistant coach under Ben Conrad, who resigned to take a similar post at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. Brown believes his promotion will help make a smooth transition.

Brown says a coaching change this late in the summer makes it tough, and he says this will make it a good transition. Brown has previous head coaching experience. He was the head coach at Iowa Central Community College from 1999-2005.

Brown says once you get away from head coaching and work for someone else, you pick up some new things to do, and he thinks those things will help him. Brown says he feels no added pressure to try and go out and remove the "interim" tag.

Brown says there’s always pressure to succeed, and he says he hasn’t given thought to the idea. He says he just wants to do what he does best and let things take care of themselves. The Peacocks finished 7-23 this past season, the program’s third at the division two level.
