A northwest Iowa man was killed Wednesday when his vehicle struck a power pole south of Estherville. The Emmett County Sheriff’s office says 56-year-old Donald Kerr of Graettinger was southbound on Highway four when his truck left the roadway and struck the utility pole.

The sheriff’s office received a report of the accident and that live power lines were down around the truck. Once the power was shut off, Kerr was taken to the Estherville hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s department is trying to determine why Kerr drove off the road.
