Officials say their preliminary investigation indicates an Eagle Grove man killed himself in the home of his estranged wife — a home he had been barred by the court from entering and a home where he’d been involved in a police stand-off earlier this month.

Authorities received a 911 call early Saturday morning from the Michael and Bobby Jo Omvig residence in Eagle Grove. The call was cut off. Less than a minute later, Bobby Jo Omvig made a second 911 call, asking for help. The officer responding to the call reported that upon entering an upstairs bedroom of the house he discovered the body of 33-year-old Michael Omvig lying on the bed with a gunshot wound to the head. Autopsy results are still pending, but investigating officers say that it appears to have been a self inflicted wound.

On July 6th, a domestic disturbance at the residence led to a short police stand off with Michael Omvig. Omvig fired a gunshot from the garage. Omvig was charged with domestic assault, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and interference with official acts following that incident.

Omvid had been released on bond and his wife had obtained a no contact order.
