T.J. Werner tossed a three hitter as third rated Burlington edged number eight Southeast Polk 2-1. Werner yielded a first inning run before blanking the Rams the rest of the way. He says they were real nervous at the start of the game and it showed, but they were able to settle down.

The game featured a controversial play in the top of the seventh. Southeast Polk had runners on first and third with one out after Ryan Webb reached first on an error on his grounder to third.

After two conferences with the umpires it was ruled Webb fouled the ball of his foot. The runner went back to second and two pitches later Webb was out on a grounder to short. "It was not a foul ball, I don’t know why they even called it. A game like that, on a call like that, I can’t believe it,"Webb said.

Webb maintains the ball did not hit him. "A game like this, you don’t let a call like that ruin a game like this, not at all. I mean, that’s bad on the umpire’s part," Webb says.

Jimmy Six yielded six hits in six and two thirds innings of work as Marshalltown upended second rated Sioux City North 2-0. Marshalltown coach Steve Hanson says the rain hurt them as Six didn’t get as many starts as he needed. But Hanson says Six is their guy and still will be.. North closes the season with a record of 37-5.
