The freshman pitcher led Preston to a seventh place finish in its first trip to the state tournament. In 19 and a third innings Bormann gave up only one earned run and struck out 31, including a one hit shutout with 16 strikeouts in a consolation round victory over Fremont-Mills. Bormann also was the leading hitter for the Trojans with a .400 average and was 4-for-9 at the plate during the state tournament.
