Ames police have released the name of the woman who was shot to death while working at a Casey’s convenience store Sunday. Department spokesman, Commander Jim Robinson, says they were called to the store about the shooting just before 4:30.

Officers found 27-year-old Lacrissa Davis of Ames dead inside the store. Robinson says the suspect in the shooting fled on foot and was later spotted near Nevada, and a Nevada police officer confronted the man.

Robinson says the suspect then began shooting at the officer, and after exchanging gunfire, the man stole the police car and fled. Robinson says multiple law enforcement agencies chased the man on Highway 30, and they were able to put out devices to flatten the tires on the patrol car, and the suspect drove into a ditch near State Center.

Robinson says the man then apparently killed himself. He says the man was found dead in the car with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and says officers did not fire on the man after the car went into the ditch. Robinson says the man’s name is not being released until his relatives can be notified.

There are reports that the suspect was Davis’ boyfriend, but Robinson says they haven’t sorted that all out yet. "That’s something we are still looking at…they were acquaintances, to what level, it’s unknown at this time," Robinson says.

Robinson says it’s a "very, very tragic event," and not something they are accustomed to. Robinson says they’re still seeking information from anyone who may’ve been in or near the store when the shooting took place. They’re asked to call the Ames Police Department.
