Authorities in northeast Iowa are investigating the discovery of a body in the Mississippi River. Clayton County Sheriff Robert Hamann says the body was discovered by a boater on the Mississippi around 3 p.m. Monday.

The boater was able to secure the body and bring it to shore just south of Guttenberg. Hamann says investigators did not find any identification, but the body is that of a white male between 40 and 55 years old.

The person was wearing prescription glasses, a gold necklace and cut off blue jean shorts. The body was taken for an autopsy to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny.
