A police officer in Nevada reportedly hit a man with a patrol car on Friday night. The subject has been identified as Eric Peterson of Nevada. The Nevada officers involved in the incident are Officers Adam Fischels and Kailen Fitzgerald.

Shortly before six Friday evening, the Nevada Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call of a man with a knife confronting people around the area of 13th Street and M Avenue. Officers responded to the area and located Peterson. Peterson confronted Officer Fischels and aggressively moved toward the officer’s vehicle.

Peterson attempted to enter the patrol car and continued to pursue the officer. Officer Fitzgerald arrived on the scene and observed Peterson pursuing Officer Fischels’ vehicle. Fitzgerald then struck Peterson with the patrol vehicle. An ambulance was then summoned with Peterson airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for treatment of his injuries.

The Nevada Police Department and the D.C.I. are conducting the investigation with the assistance of the Story County Sheriff’s Department and Iowa State Patrol. Both Officers Fischels and Fitzgerald have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
