Homeless veterans in southwest Iowa will get help transitioning back into mainstream life with the opening of a new facility in Council Bluffs. A federal grant is going to the Christian Worship Center toward what will be called the New Visions Center.

Spokeswoman Maggie Oldham says: "The new facility will consist of 26 units of transitional housing. They’re also going to have supportive services provided by the community to work with the veterans in the housing to help them get their lives back on track."

She says the grant of 1.8 million dollars is making the new haven for homeless veterans a reality, offering a host of amenities. Oldham says, "The V-A Nebraska-Western Iowa health care system has social workers and other clinicians who will provide clinical assessments, medical treatments, alcohol and drug abuse counseling and also employment assistance."

Officials say the new facility will provide a safe environment for veterans working on re-building their lives. For more information, visit the VA website .
