One person was killed and another injured in a two car crash this morning in southwest Iowa. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a car driven by 22-year-old Taryn Sue Weston of Villisca was traveling north on Highway 71, when it crossed the center line of the road just north of Villisca.

Weston’s 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix hit the drivers side door of a southbound car driven by 24-year-old Skyler John Dickey, of Nodaway. Dickey’s 2000 Chevy Cavalier ended up in the west ditch, while Weston’s car came to a stop in the middle of Highway 71.

Dickey was pronounced dead at the Red Oak Hospital. Weston was also taken to the Red Oak Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Omaha. Her injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. The accident, which happened just after 7 a.m., forced traffic to be rerouted in the area for several hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
