Some gas stations around Iowa have dropped their prices for a gallon of regular, unleaded fuel to under three dollars a gallon. Triple-A reports the average price today in Des Moines is at $3.11, down from $3.17 on Sunday. Triple-A Iowa spokesperson Mitch Beaumont says other Iowa cities are following suit.

"In Waterloo-Cedar Falls, it’s $3.22 today, yesterday it was $3.27. Really, across Iowa, we’re seeing some very good decreases," Beaumont said. Some motorists in Des Moines are fueling up for $2.99 a gallon. In Davenport, the average price for regular, unleaded gas dropped from $3.37 Sunday to $3.31 today. In Sioux City, prices dropped from $3.31 to $3.27.

"We’re seeing improved supply from the Gulf Coast," Beaumont said. "Those refineries are now recovering from the two hurricanes that hit this summer. We’re also looking into the future at crude oil prices and those have been decreasing as well." Beaumont says, barring any unforseen disturbances, gas prices should continue to drop below the three-dollar level across the state.

Nationally, Triple-A reports the average price for regular, unleaded gas at $3.50 a gallon.
