The former director of the Hardin County Solid Waste Commission has pleaded guilty to a theft charge. Forty-six-year-old Mary Ellen Taylor made an appearance this week in the Hardin County District Court in Eldora on the charge.
The charge stems from an investigation that was initiated in part by an audit conducted by the office of the State Auditor. The audit covered a period beginning January 1, 2002 through December 31st, 2007 revealing more than 127 thousand dollars on un-deposited collections and improper and unsupported disbursements.
Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced November 17th in Hardin County. She could be facing up to ten years in prison on the charge.
