Wet and windy weather had an impact this week on the crops still in Iowa fields. The latest crop report from the state Ag Secretary says the wet weather slowed down the harvest that is already behind, and the strong winds raised fears that the corn that’s still waiting in the fields for harvest would be knocked down.

The report says the corn harvest is 20% complete — three weeks behind last year’s pace and 17 days behind the five-year average. The soybean harvest is farther along, with 87% of the beans now out of the fields, which is two percent ahead of last year and nine days behinds the five-year average.

The report says farmers in northwest and northcentral Iowa have nearly completed their soybean harvest, but over half of the soybean crop in southcentral Iowa remains to be picked.
