Prosecutors say an eastern Iowa teenager accused of killing her newborn baby in a Florida hotel will plead guilty to the crime.
Nineteen-year-old Ashley Truitt of Solon is accused of throwing her daughter down a trash chute after giving birth in a hotel bathroom in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Truitt, who was 18 at the time, was vacationing in Florida with her family and her boyfriend in June of last year. The baby fell seven stories into a dumpster and died of head injuries.
Truitt, who hid the pregnancy, had been charged with first degree murder. Florida prosecutors say Truitt will plead guilty to homicide on December 18. She has been held in jail in Florida since her arrest last year.
