A 22-year-old Webster City man was sentenced Monday in Fort Dodge to serve a decade in prison for vehicular homicide. Paul Jon Abbott was driving a pickup on Pleasant Street in Lehigh last November when he lost control and struck a tree near the Des Moines River bridge.

His passenger in the truck, 41-year-old Darwin L. Reverts of Webster City, was killed in the accident. Abbott suffered injuries in the accident of a year ago. Following the crash, Abbott walked to a nearby home to call for help after calling his grandmother on a cell phone.

Abbott’s blood alcohol concentration was over the legal limit, according to a press release from the Webster County Attorney’s Office. Abbott was also ordered to pay $150,000 to the family of Reverts.
