A Spirit Lake man was killed in a crash in northwest Iowa on Saturday. The Sioux County Sheriff’s office was called to the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and 400th Street, six miles northeast of Orange City at 2:19 a.m.

Twenty-four-year-old Jon Carl Cam was heading east on 400th in a 1991 Jeep Wrangler when he left the roadway and entered the south ditch vaulting the Jeep over Jefferson Avenue before coming to rest in a nearby bean field. Cam was ejected from the vehicle.

Cam was eventually taken to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City by Mercy Air Care. He died Saturday night. It was noted that alcohol may have been a factor.
