Federal, state and local authorities are looking for an arsonist in southeast Iowa. The Burlington Fire Department and the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office issued a news release Wednesday confirming officially that all four of the fires set early Tuesday morning in Burlington’s South Hill neighborhood were arson.

A source speaking on condition of anonymity said the fires appear to be the work of a serial arsonist. There have been 12 fires in South Hill since October. The fires are being investigated by the Burlington Police Department and Fire Department, the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms.

Citizens are asked to secure their properties and report any suspicious activity. All residents are asked to check their smoke detectors and plan an in home escape route.
