An unusual piece of rock-n-roll history could be up for sale on the Internet soon. The family of the Big Bopper plans to auction his casket on E- Bay in the next few weeks.
The casket held The Bopper for nearly five decades until he was exhumed in 2007 so experts could answer questions about his death as well as move his body to a more visible location with a life- sized statue and historical marker.
The Bopper’s son says he wants to use the cash from the casket’s sale to fund a musical about his father, adding that he has no personal use for the casket. The Bopper, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and pilot Roger Peterson were all killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake in February of 1959 after the entertainers performed at the Surf Ballroom.
