A very cold arctic air mass is moving over Iowa this morning, prompting the issuing of a Wind Chill Warning for much of the state. National Weather Service meteorologist Mindy Albrecht says temperatures are plummeting. She says some places in Iowa may’ve already had their high for the day as temperatures will be falling throughout the day, while tonight, the wind chills may be hitting as low as 45-below zero.

Albrecht said the bitter cold is to the north of us this morning with temperatures well below zero. She says this is the coldest air many areas have seen in years in the Dakotas and Minnesota and it’s headed for Iowa. Albrecht says Iowans can expect a slight warm-up by this weekend and into the first part of next week.

Friday and Saturday may have temperatures warming into the 20s with temps above freezing for part of the state by Sunday, with all of Iowa above freezing by Monday.
