The Iowa State Cyclones host defending national champion Kansas Saturday in Big 12 action in Ames. The Cyclones are 1-2 in the league race and need to be more efficient on the offensive end than there were in a lopsided loss at Missouri last weekend.
Iowa State coach Greg McDermott says their offense wasn’t as sharp as it needs to be and they have to keep working on it. McDermott says shooting cures a lot of things that aren’t perfect, but execution up to that point determines the shot that you get. He says the execution Saturday was not as good as it should have been.
Kansas is 3-0 in the Big-12.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are on the road in the Big Ten to take on Penn State. The Hawks are 2-4 in the league race after a 73-69 overtime win against Wisconsin which snapped a three game losing skid.
Iowa coach Todd Lickliter says they need to focus on the progress they are making, the effort they are giving and how they are gonna keep getting better. Lickliter says it’s the fifth youngest team in the nation experience wise, and he says that’s especially tough because of the quality of the Big Ten Conference.
The Nittany Lions are 4-3 in the Big Ten and 15-5 overall. Iowa guard Jake Kelly says they have some good players who battle and are hungry to make a name for themselves. The Hawks are 12-7.
