A Cedar Falls man is accused of breaking in to an ATM. at a convenience store and taking a large sum of money after a camera on the machine helped police identify him.

The owner of a company called Mobile Money, which owns the ATM., reported the missing cash on Thursday. Cedar Falls Police Captain Michael Hayes says a camera on the machine and cameras inside the convenience store caught the suspect in action.

The man captured on tape was identified as 27-year-old Christopher Cobb, an ex-employee of Mobile Money. “A search warrant was obtained and we went into his residence and found a good majority of the money from the ATM.,” Hayes said. The Mobile Money owner told investigators that $12,000 was taken from the ATM.

Cobb is now charged with first-degree theft, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Cobb and a roommate, 23-year-old Alexander Patterson, were also charged with possession of marijuana. The ATM theft occurred Wednesday inside a Casey’s General Store, located in the 24-hundred block of Center Street in Cedar Falls.
