President Obama mentioned Iowa in the punchline of one of his jokes at this weekend’s White House Correspondents Dinner.

The annual event features remarks from the president and Obama began by mentioning well-known people who were in the room — including his top campaign advisor: David Axelrod.

"You know, David and I have been together a long time. I can still remember…I tear up a little bit when I think back to that day when I called Ax so many years ago and said, ‘You and I can do wonderful things together,’ and he said to me the same thing that partners all across America are saying to one another right now: ‘Let’s go to Iowa and make it official.’"

Of course, Obama was making reference to two things: the fact same-sex couples may now obtain a marriage license in Iowa and the fact that he won Iowa’s 2008 Caucuses. During an interview with Radio Iowa, Obama described his victory in Iowa back on January 3, 2008 as "lift-off" for his presidential campaign.
