The Grinnell boy’s soccer team will make its first appearance in the state tournament later this week. The Tigers advanced by edging Knoxville 2-1 in a sub-state final on Monday night.

Grinnell coach Paul Durr says every game against Knoxville is a tough game and every game has some luck and they had a little more luck than Knoxville. The Tigers are playing their best at the right time. They have won eight of their last nine.

Durr says they are getting a lot of senior leadership and the sophomore and freshmen have also stepped up. After a slow start to the season Grinnell takes a 9-8-2 record into Thursday’s class 2A quarterfinal round matchup against fourth rated Hudson.

Durr says all that matters is how you play at the end of the season, and they have played well and are going to state.
