A Council Bluffs native returns home this weekend when the College World Series begins in Omaha. Brian O’Connor is the head coach at the University of Virginia and the Cavaliers will take on LSU in Saturday’s opening round.

O’Connor says he’s ecstatic for the team as they are coming to the World Series for the first time in the history of the program.

O’Connor says it is a great feeling to be coming home, after being born and raised in Council Bluffs, and then attending college at Creighton.

O’Connor’s parents still reside in Council Bluffs. He says coming home with a team on the other side of the fence is a huge honor, as he says the community embraces the teams and he feels its the greatest event in college sports.

O’Connor says he hopes fans here will adopt the Cavaliers as their team during the series. He says he’d like at least 70% of the crowed will be pulling for his team when they play. Opening ceremonies get underway Friday.
