A Muscatine man is facing more than $2,700 in fines for taking too many bullfrogs from a private farm pond. Iowa D.N.R. Conservation Officer Tom Campbell arrested 26-year-old Bradley Honts on Saturday near West Liberty.

Campbell says Honts had 27 bullfrogs in his possession, while the daily bag limit for bullfrogs in Iowa is 12. Campbell says the bullfrogs are either eaten or used as fish bait.

In addition, Honts had his fishing privileges suspended two years ago for five violations involving sport turtle trapping. Campbell says the suspension was for three years. If convicted on all 27 counts against him, Honts could have his hunting and fishing privileges suspended for an additional 27 years.

Campbell says each violation carries a fine of just over $100 and a one year suspension. West Liberty Police also charged Honts with driving while barred. The charge is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $6,250.
